We were pleased to speak at the Pensioen Pro Beleggersberaad 2026 in Rotterdam, where Jorg Sallaerts and Ralph van Daalen joined industry peers and more than 150 Dutch pension fund representatives to discuss the implications of the Netherlands’ pension reform and growing investor interest in private markets.
One of the key themes was how the transition to the new pension framework (Wtp) in the Netherlands is expected to reshape institutional asset allocation. By January 2028, approximately €1.8–1.9 trillion in pension assets – an amount equivalent to approximately 150% of Dutch GDP – must transition from the old FTK framework to the new Wtp system. The introduction of age-based lifcycle risk profiles, the elimination of VEV capital charges and the adoption of market-based risk assessments, will recognise private credit increasingly as an attractive source of long-term income and diversification for pension investors.
